How are Credit Unions Different from Banks?

A Credit Union is a not-for-profit organization of individuals, as opposed to a for-profit business dedicated to earning money for its shareholders and not for you. Since there are no shareholder dividends to pay and no salaries for our Board of Directors, all that money comes back to YOU, our member-owners, in the form of higher rates on deposit accounts and CDs and lower rates on loans. What could be better?

How Can I Join 1st Credit Union?

Membership is open to anyone living or working in Alachua County. If you are a registered voter or a resident of Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy or Union county, you are also eligible for membership.

Will My Membership Expire?

NO! Once you are a member, you can remain a member for life. Even if you move away! The benefits of membership are immediate and fulfilling.

Important Information About Opening a New Account USA Patriot Act

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

What this means to you:

When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driverís license or other identifying documents.
