Cashiers Check Fraud
If you donít know the buyer, you
simply cannot assume that a cashierís check is just as good as cash.
A stranger sends you a cashierís
check out of the blue and asks that you deposit the money and send
them a portion of it back usually by wire transfer.
A stranger wants to use a cashierís
check to purchase a product and for various reasons the cashierís
check is made out for an amount in excess of the purchase price.
Then, the buyer asks you to accept the full amount and send the
overpayment back to them or to a third party.
If faced with any of these
situations, itís probably cashierís check fraud. Donít send any
money until you are sure that the paying bank has actually paid the

CREDIT UNION DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD HAS BEEN DEACTIVATED AND TO PRESS
AN OPTION TO ACTIVATE CARD. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND. HANG UP PHONE.
THIS IS NOT COMING FROM 1ST CREDIT UNION OF GAINESVILLE. IT IS A
SCAM! PLEASE CONTACT CREDIT UNION IF YOU HAVE NUMBER ON CALLER I.D.

Please return calls to the
Transaction Review Department at 1-800-327-8622 as soon as
possible, 24 x 7.
If you have access to a
computer and can review your account on-line, we recommend that you
do that BEFORE you return the call.
You will not be asked to give
out any personal confidential information. You will be asked to
confirm if you have a 1st Credit Union debit card and
whether you have made certain specific transactions.
If it appears that
unauthorized transactions have actually been made to your account,
the Transaction Review Department will handle the matter
appropriately. Call the Credit Union on the next business day so
that we may more quickly follow up for you.
ANY text messages
you receive via your cell phone about debit or ATM cards
being canceled or locked due to fraud, and which contain
an 877 toll-free number to call, are fraudulent.
Please disregard them and contact us immediately at

Alert from the credit union. It is not legitimate! The
email will say:

This email is NOT
from the Credit Union and the website is NOT under our
control. If you have visited this website,
notify us immediately at 352-372-8225 so we can take
precautions to protect your account.
DO NOT GIVE OUT
YOUR DEBIT CARD NUMBER, EXPIRATION DATE, YOUR PINN
THE THREE DIGIT CODE ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD OVER THE PHONE OR
THRU TEXT MESSAGE. THIS IS A SCAM!
The Credit Union has
your card number and expiration date and
would never ask that it be verified. If you
give out this information, contact the credit union
immediately at 352-372-8225 ext 321, your debit card
must be blocked.
